Newcastle United are confident that Brentford striker Yoane Wissa will join the club.
Yoane Wissa to Liverpool is a non-starter as the striker desperately wants to join Newcastle United.
NewcastleWorld understands the Magpies are confident in signing the Brentford man before the start of the Premier League season. Toon chiefs travel to Aston Villa next weekend with Will Osula as the only active No.9 given Alexander Isak’s exile.
Newcastle have already seen one offer rejected for Wissa - worth around £25million - earlier in the window. That led to the DR Congo international “doing an Isak” and abandoning the club’s pre-season camp.
Liverpool interest rubbished
He is back training at Brentford after talks with manager Keith Andrews but has stressed his intention to leave. The Bees are working on a replacement, thought to be Bournemouth star Dango Outtara, despite him being more of a wide player.
Wissa himself began as a winger before developing his striker instinct. There were rumours circulating yesterday that Liverpool could hijack Newcastle’s deal - a move some may view as petty given the Isak situation.
However, it is NewcastleWorld’s understanding that the Reds do not have concrete interest in the 28-year-old. Wissa is United’s player to lose and it appears likely his transfer could be completed next week.
Liverpool fans should not celebrate as though this paves the way for Isak to head to Anfield. Any agreement on Wissa would be seen as a replacement for Callum Wilson, not the Swede.
Keith Andrews on Yoane Wissa
Brentford boss Andrews confirmed to the media last week that Wissa still wants to leave the club. He said: “Where it’s at is, in a nutshell, is that there's interest in Yoane. As everybody knows, he came back from the tour in Lisbon, which we felt was the right decision for Yoane.
“We have to respect his position and the fact that it can be stressful, emotional. I think that’s only natural for players. If you say anything different, you’re not living in the real world. But for us, it’s really simple. He’s a little bit behind in his fitness, he’s training very, very hard at the moment at the training ground and we look forward to welcoming him back into the group.
“Having the best players in the building would always be a bonus. I deal with the football side of things. I’m very comfortable with Yoane at the moment. (I have) phenomenal respect for him as an individual. As a person, I’m very understanding of the situation.”

Alan Pardew on Yoane Wissa
Speaking to talkSPORT, former Newcastle manager Pardew advised Wissa to reject a St James’ Park switch. He said: “I would say so (whether Wissa for £25million is a bargain). I don't... I can't see that one. I don't see where he fits in. I don't think he's a replacement for Isak.
“Would he want to be a backup? I can’t see that one. I think they're probably trying to give the fan base some good news. If you're a Newcastle fan, it hasn't been the greatest of summers in terms of the transfer market. They had the cup in the bag. This should all be positive, really, for Newcastle this season.
“I don't see Wissa as a positive, if I'm honest. I just can't see him starting in the team. And I think if I were Wissa, that I would make that move.”
