Crystal Palace stunned Liverpool to win the Community Shield on penalties.

A debut goal from Hugo Ekitike after just four minutes put the Reds in front at Wembley, before Jean-Philippe Mateta equalised from the spot.

Jeremie Frimpong then marked his first competitive appearance with a bizarre goal, a cross from the right dropping over Dean Henderson and into the back of the net, but Ismaila Sarr later broke free of Virgil van Dijk and netted to send the tie the distance.

Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott all failed to beat the heroic Henderson, allowing Justin Devenny to secure the silverware for Palace just a matter of weeks after their FA Cup triumph over Manchester City at the same ground.
