According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, there are currently no plans for Young and the Hawks to engage in contract extension talks this summer.
Young, who still has two years left on his deal — including a player option for the 2026-27 season — could become a free agent as soon as next summer.
This possibility is gaining traction as the Hawks have yet to make any concrete moves toward securing the star point guard long term.
Last season, Young put up impressive numbers, averaging 24.2 points and 11.6 assists per game.
He remains the heartbeat of the Atlanta offense, having been the franchise cornerstone since his 2018 draft.
Despite his individual success, the Hawks’ team results have been underwhelming. Aside from their 2021 Eastern Conference Finals run, Atlanta has consistently failed to meet expectations.
