Everton are “plotting a move” to sign Norwich City full-back Kellen Fisher this summer, according to Football Insider.
This summer has perhaps been the first for at least a few years that Everton fans have entered feeling optimistic. The club were taken over by the Friedkin Group at the turn of the year who, ahead of this season’s move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, appointed David Moyes as manager, the Scot returning 12 years after his first stint in charge came to an end and steering Everton away from the threat of a relegation battle.
Not including Carlos Alcaraz, who saw his loan made permanent, the Toffees have signed four new faces at the time of writing ahead of the new campaign. Mark Travers has signed from Bournemouth and Adam Aznou has joined from Bayern Munich, whilst Everton have spent big on midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and striker Thierno Barry from Chelsea and Villarreal respectively.
Everton are far from finished in the transfer market and more additions are expected before the window closes. Now, reports have suggested that the Toffees are considering a player that would offer them necessary depth in defence.
Fisher is On Everton’s Radar
Kellen Fisher for Norwich City
Kellen Fisher enjoyed a breakout season for Norwich City last year, making over 40 appearances in all competitions as the club as they finished mid-table in the Championship. At just 21 years old, Fisher is a promising talent and his displays in the latest campaign have caught Everton’s attention, according to Football Insider.
The long-serving Seamus Coleman is an option for Everton at right-back, but the Irishman is now an older player who has made just a handful of appearances in recent years. Ashley Young departed the club as a free agent in the summer and Nathan Patterson has struggled with injuries since joining the Toffees, leaving Jake O’Brien as their only alternative at right-back.
In signing Fisher, not only would O’Brien then be able to play in his primary position in central defence when needed, but Everton would be recruiting much-needed depth for the right-hand side of their backline. After such a "meteoric rise," Fisher, who has been dubbed an "outstanding" player, could prove to be a smart addition for Everton if they agree a deal with the Canaries, who could be part of their defence for years to come.
