The Blues rounded off a short but impressive pre-season in style, as we comprehensively defeated Italian giants AC Milan at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca's side needed little time to establish an advantage, as an own goal from Andrei Coubis put us ahead and Joao Pedro then netted what has become his customary goal.
An 18th-minute red card shown to Coubis altered the flow of the game, and it wasn't until the second period that we added to our advantage when Liam Diap fired home a penalty after Estevao had been fouled.
Youssouf Fofana did pull a goal back for Milan, but our victory was rounded off just before the full-time whistle as Delap finished well after an excellent pass from Andrey Santos.
Starting strongly
A handful of those who started against Bayer Leverkusen were included in the side. The team sheet read Robert Sanchez, Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Ferandnez, Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Jamie Gittens, and Joao Pedro.
As was the case on Friday evening against Bayer Leverkusen, Maresca's side began the contest with great urgency and purpose. And it resulted in the Blues scoring twice inside the opening eight minutes.
The first came via a free-kick won by Gittens, who was brought down after nipping beyond Yunus Musah. James flighted a cross to the back post and, with Fernandez in close attention, Coubis turned the ball into his own net.
While there was a touch of fortune about that goal, our second was fashioned through genuine quality. The ball was worked out to the right flank for Pedro Neto, who advanced, cut inside, and clipped the ball toward the six-yard box.
Joao Pedro timed his run perfectly and headed powerfully beyond Mike Maignan to score in his fourth successive outing in Chelsea blue.
There was no let-up from the Blues, and Marc Cucurella guided a shot wide after a corner was worked short before Pedro Neto stung the hands of Maignan.
Rafael Leao largely carried Milan's threat and a neat pass from the Portugal international enabled Alexis Saelemaekers to fire at goal. His near-post effort thumped against the chest of Sanchez, who stood strong at his near post.
Milan reduced to ten
Yet any hope the Italian side had of working their way back into the game was further reduced on 18 minutes, as Coubis was shown a straight red card after hauling down Joao Pedro, who was through on goal after a wonderful raking pass from Sanchez.
Palmer opted to take the resultant free-kick and rasped an attempt from 30 yards around the wall and against the post. It was a wonderful effort from our new No.10.
Another free-kick opportunity presented itself to Palmer minutes later after Joao Pedro was clipped 25 yards from goal. This time, the England international opted to go over the wall and was unfortunate as his effort drifted just wide of the post and struck the stanchion.
Milan carried a threat even with ten men, perhaps due to having extra pre-season minutes under their belts.
Rafael Leao did have the ball in the net after heading home a cross, only to see the goal rightly ruled out for offside, and then forced Sanchez to shovel a near-post attempt wide. Saelemaekers fashioned a shooting opportunity for himself soon after, but drove his effort over the crossbar.
The final chance of the half fell to the Blues. It was created by Gittens, who found Pedro Neto at the back post with a cross. He was denied and Cucurella's follow-up was blocked on its way to goal.
Maresca opted against making any alterations at the break, with those who started continuing to build fitness ahead of our Premier League opener next weekend.
Milan did make a change, with 39-year-old Luka Modric introduced for Samuele Ricci, and the Croatian had the first shot of the second period as he forced Sanchez into a routine stop.
The visitors' clearest sight of goal came ten minutes after the restart, as Youssouf Fofana exchanged passes and attempted to round Sanchez. Yet hesitation between the French midfielder and Davide Bartesaghi enabled James to scramble back and clear. It was fine work from our skipper.
Freshening up
Maresca then made changes. One was enforced as Chalobah, who tweaked his ankle but walked off, was replaced by Josh Acheampong. Malo Gusto, Andrey Santos, Estevao and Liam Delap were then introduced for James, Fernandez, Palmer and Joao Pedro.
The changes reinvigorated the Blues, and Pedro Neto fashioned a good opportunity for Gittens inside the area. But the 21-year-old could only curl his shot over the crossbar.
However, from our next attack, a penalty was awarded. Esteavo was the man brought down as he pulled back by Musah when trying to turn home a fine Delap cross. The new Blues striker stepped up and drilled his penalty confidently home.
There was an immediate response from Milan, however, as Saelemaekers drifted inside with the ball off the left flank and slipped a pass through to Fofana, who fired beyond Sanchez from close range.
Further Chelsea substitutions followed. Jorrel Hato replaced Cucurella, Dario Essugo stepped in for Caicedo, Tyrique George was introduced for Gittens, and 16-year-old Reggie Walsh came on for Pedro Neto.
Estevao shifted out to the right flank from the number ten position as a result, and the Brazilian forced Maignan into a smart reaction save with a powerful drive from distance.
Finishing in style
In the final minutes of the game, Essugo worked Maignan with a shot from distance after encouragement from the Stamford Bridge crowd. And there was still time for the Blues to add a fourth.
It was a fine goal, too. It started with Gusto, who fizzed a pass into Andrey Santos on the edge of the box. The Brazilian played an excellent one-touch pass toward Delap, and the striker swept the ball home for his second to round off the win and ensure we made it two wins from two in pre-season
