Warriors shift their stance on Jonathan Kuminga

Golden State Warriors are now open to sign-and-trade offers for Jonathan Kuminga but remain firm on key contract terms, including keeping the second year of his deal as a team option.

Golden State Warriors have shifted their stance on Jonathan Kuminga, showing openness to sign-and-trade inquiries for the restricted free agent swingman.

Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reveals that while the Warriors are willing to listen to offers, they remain firm on key contract details that complicate any potential deals.

Golden State has offered a two-year, $45 million extension offer to the 22-year-old Kuminga, but insists that the second year is a team option.

Kuminga, on the other hand, prefers a player option for that second season. This disagreement has led to a standoff, which some insiders believe could drag on into September.

Kuminga has until October 1 to accept his $8 million qualifying offer for the 2025-26 season and bet on himself as an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The Warriors would prefer to avoid Kuminga taking the qualifier route, as it would risk losing him without compensation and also limit their ability to trade him in February, when his salary would exceed $20 million and make him a valuable trade asset.

However, Golden State has drawn a firm line on potential sign-and-trade deals involving Kuminga.

According to league sources, the Warriors will not consider any trade proposal that would force them to match incoming salary by trading away either Buddy Hield or Moses Moody due to the complex Base Year Compensation rules in the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Last season, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45.4% from the field and 30.5% from three-point range.
