Robinson to miss start of Premier League season with injury

Antonee Robinson, who has not featured for Fulham during the preseason, will not be fit for the start of the Premier League season, according to manager Marco Silva.

"Jedi is not ready," said Silva after the club's 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in its final preseason match on Saturday.

Fulham, which finished 11th last season, begins its Premier League campaign on Saturday against Brighton at American Express Stadium.

Robinson underwent knee surgery in May, knocking him out for the U.S. men's national team at the Gold Cup this summer. The injury also kept him out of the Nations League Finals in March.

Despite the injury, Robinson started 35 of Fulham's 38 league games last season and provided 10 assists, which led all defenders in the Premier League.

Robinson may now be in jeopardy of missing the USMNT's two friendlies early next month, with the team set to face South Korea on Sept. 6 and Japan on Sept. 9.

During the Gold Cup, USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino had Max Arfsten and John Tolkin fill out the left back role. However, there are other options, such as Caleb Wiley and Kristoffer Lund, that could compete for a spot behind Robinson.

In addition, right backs such as Sergiño Dest and Joe Scally can also fill in at left back when needed.
