Former Oregon offensive lineman signs with Atlanta Falcons

Jake Hanson has landed with a third NFL team.

The former Oregon offensive lineman signed with the Falcons on Saturday, his agency announced. Hanson, who played in 12 games and made two starts last season for the New York Jets, tried out with Atlanta earlier last week.

He joins a crowded offensive line room in Atlanta, which has 16 offensive linemen, though it released Kilian Zierer last week.

The Falcons’ next practice is Monday, followed by joint practices against the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday and Wednesday and a preseason game against the Titans on Friday.

Hanson played 103 offensive snaps and 45 on special teams last season. He played 246 snaps on offense and 19 on special teams in his first season with New York, when he made four starts in seven games.

In five years in the NFL, Hanson has appeared in 30 games with seven starts and played both center and guard. A four-year starter at center at UO, Hanson was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round in 2020 and spent his first there seasons with the club before signing with New York in Nov. 2023.
