But Sunderland's head coach is confident the [Black Cats](http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland) will be able to "adapt", regardless of whether or not they're successful in their pursuit of a centre-half in the coming days.
Arthur Masuaku became Sunderland's 11th signing of the summer on Sunday morning when the former West Ham full-back joined as a free agent, signing a two-year deal.
When he's fully fit and up to speed, Masuaku's arrival will potentially allow Le Bris to move Reinildo over to play at centre-half, but the signing of at least one central defender remains a priority.
Sunderland are in talks with Getafe over the £10m signing of Paraguay international Omar Alderete, though Le Bris said he wasn't able to comment on the situation when he spoke to the media after the 3-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon.

And Le Bris was also unable to provide any clarity on whether Sunderland will manage to land a centre-half in the coming days.
"I don't know, we'll see," said Le Bris, who will be without Luke O'Nien, Aji Alese, Leo Hjelde and Dennis Cirkin for the first month of the season. Jenson Seelt played and impressed in the 1-0 win at Augsburg on Saturday and feels the current favourite to start alongside Dan Ballard against West Ham.
"We've spoken a lot over these last six weeks about the characteristics of the market," continued Le Bris on transfers.
"It's always difficult because we are not alone in this market. The strong players have many options and solutions. Sometimes it goes quickly, sometimes not. We have to adapt.
"I think if you watched the game against Augsburg yesterday, I think that Jenson did well and Dan Ballard alongside him. At the minute, I think they are both ready to be competitive."
Asked whether he wants to sign one or two central defenders, Le Bris said: "We’ll see. For example Jenson did really well during pre-season. It’s always a question of opportunities. We need the right players for our project. We’ll see."
Masuaku followed Marc Guiu through the door at the Stadium of Light, with both signings unveiled to the crowd before Sunday's friendly. But having not played for the Black Cats at all in pre-season, it's not clear at this stage whether the duo will be involved in the opening weekend.
"We'll see," Le Bris said.
"Every day we will make an assessment of their level and see how far we can push them through the training sessions. Lift the intensity, the contact. If they react well, they can then join the squad. If they don't react well, we wait one day, two day and assess again. So we will see for next week."
Habib Diarra's goal secured a 1-0 win for Sunderland in Germany on Saturday, with Le Bris naming what looks like being the starting XI for the West Ham game against Augsburg.
A different XI featuring the likes of Dan Neil, Enzo Le Fee and the fit-again Chris Rigg and Wilson Isidor then played on Sunday, with Spanish visitors Vallecano outclassing the Black Cats.
Le Bris said: "It was a strong opponent ready for La Liga.
"We need strong opponents to grow, even if our squad was today wasn't well connected for different reasons, it was a good test and it was better for the competitive fixtures to have this experience.
"We have come through the two games with no injuries, and with more game time for our players.
"Between Augsburg and Rayo Vallecano, we can feel that the first squad is very connected and this is the main squad for the beginning of the season. And then today, we have three, four, five players ready for this squad as well.
"It is more difficult for them in this moment because they are connecting with less experienced players and the level is a little below, but they worked \[hard\] and it was the right decision for next weekend."
