Arne Slot and Virgil van Dijk have spoken about what Liverpool should do in the transfer market over the next few weeks. The Reds have until September 1 to complete their summer business and are continuing to be linked with several potential new targets.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is one name that continues to be mentioned in the Liverpool transfer rumour mill. The Reds had a £110 million bid rejected earlier this month and there is still speculation about where the Sweden international will be playing his football this season.

Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market this summer, particularly with player sales. Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have both been sold by the Reds to Al-Hilal and Bayern Munich respectively, which has led to the club being linked with signing a new forward even though they've already added Hugo Ekitike to their ranks.

Van Dijk believes that, after the departures of Nunez and Diaz, Liverpool would be wise to make a move for a new forward.

"Well, we just lost Darwin, He went to Saudi and we lost Lucho (Luis Diaz), obviously he went to Bayern (Munich)," Van Dijk told talkSPORT after Liverpool's defeat to Crystal Palace in a penalty shootout in the Community Shield.

"I think there's always room for an attacker in order to strengthen us, so let's see what the window brings in terms of the balance of the team."

Slot, however, has taken a different view when it comes to Liverpool's potential needs for reinforcements in the final third. The Reds head coach instead hinted that another area of the squad is getting his attention at this moment in time.

"I think we have more than enough options to be good enough to win again," Slot told talkSPORT.

"This is where I focus on myself. With the players we have, we should be able to win to score. That's actually what we did as well. We scored twice (against Palace) and last season we only scored one against them, away and at home.

"We could only score one against them. So my last concern at the moment is our offensive quality.

"It's more, it's not a concern, but if I look at the amount of goals we've conceded in pre-season. That's not of our standard."
