Arne Slot’s Liverpool will resume their pursuit of Newcastle United attacking mainstay Alexander Isak on Monday.
According to Sebastien Vidal, Liverpool still remain keen on acquiring the services of Alexander Isak and will resume negotiations for the Swedish international on Monday, having completed the sale of Darwin Nunez.
Isak has been on the Reds’ wishlist since the start of the summer. While they did make an enquiry about him quite early in the window, Newcastle made it clear that they won’t negotiate his departure. As a result, the Merseyside club shifted their attention to other targets.
Isak’s desire to leave Newcastle for Liverpool
However, things took a turn after the Swedish striker handed in a transfer request. He informed the Newcastle board that he would like to consider his options. Despite having three years left on his deal at the Tyneside club, he started pushing for a move away, amidst strong interest from Liverpool.
The 25-year-old is keen on making the switch to the Merseyside club and reportedly has an agreement on personal terms with them. After he handed in a transfer request, the Reds tabled a significant offer for his signature.
However, the Magpies turned it down straightaway. Despite the player’s desire to leave, Newcastle have maintained their stance that he is not for sale. They have informed his camp that he won’t be allowed to leave this summer.
Isak continues to train away from the group as Eddie Howe hopes to have him back in the mix once he makes peace with the fact that he won’t be able to force his way out.
Liverpool set to reignite their pursuit of Isak
While reports have suggested that the Reds won’t return with an improved offer unless the Tyneside club changes their stance, Vidal believes they could step up their pursuit following the departure of Darwin Nunez.
The South American forward has joined Saudi giants Al-Hilal, giving Liverpool a significant financial boost and making room in their squad for Isak. Now, the Reds can shift their complete focus to striking a deal for the former Real Sociedad star.
The club’s management are planning to resume talks with Newcastle on Monday. While the Reds are willing to go all out, negotiations with Eddie Howe’s team won’t be that straightforward.
