Former Michigan players make impact in Rams’ preseason opener

Two former Michigan players had productive preseason openers for the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night.

Second-year running back Blake Corum rushed for two touchdowns on nine carries for 32 yards, while rookie third-round pick Josaiah Stewart recorded the team’s only sack in a 31-21 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

The sack came against former Michigan quarterback Joe Milton and was for an 8-yard loss on a first-and-20.

Los Angeles recently signed No. 1 running back Kyren Williams to a three-year, $33 million extension, but Corum is expected to push for more snaps in 2025. His rushing touchdowns were from 4 and 2 yards out, and he also caught one pass for 4 yards.

Michigan’s all-time rushing touchdowns leader didn’t find the end zone in 17 games during the regular season in 2024 and totaled just 207 yards on the ground on 58 carries. With a strong preseason, the 2024 third-round pick could become more of a factor in the Rams’ offense. Fellow depth running back Ronnie Rivers exited Saturday’s game with a rib injury.
