Detroit Lions place 3 players on season-ending Ir and sign 4 Ufl talents

Just a day before their training camp was set to resume, the Detroit Lions made a series of roster moves Sunday that placed multiple players on the season-ending injured reserve list.

The Lions placed tight end Kenny Yeboah, along with offensive linemen Colby Sorsdal and Justin Herron, on the reserve/injured list, effectively ending their 2025 season.

Sorsdal, a 2023 fifth-round selection by the Lions, has been competing in training camp for a spot on the 53-man roster.

During Friday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, Sorsdal appeared to get banged up on the team’s final drive of the first half. The extent of versatile lineman’s injury is unclear.

Herron, who signed with the Lions on Aug. 2, suffered an arm injury during warmups before Friday’s game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. He was seen walking off the field with his arm in an air cast.

As for Yeboah, his injury status is unknown and could become clearer during Monday’s media availability with Lions head coach Dan Campbell.

The Lions also parted ways with running back Jabari Small, waiving him with an injury settlement. On Friday, he had five carries for 13 yards.

In subsequent moves, the team announced the signings of offensive linemen Gunner Britton and Keaton Sutherland, tight end Gunnar Oakes, and running back Deon Jackson.

All four players are coming off stints in the United Football League.

Britton, who signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn, returns to the NFL after a short run with the DC Defenders, with whom he won the league championship in June.

Like Britton, Jackson also joins the Lions after a one-year stint with the Defenders. He will reunite in Allen Park with Lions wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery. Both share ties to Duke University, and Montgomery was the Indianapolis Colts’ running backs coach during Jackson’s first two NFL seasons.

Jackson has rushed for 283 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL career.

Sutherland, an undrafted journeyman out of Texas A&M, is now with his seventh NFL team after playing for the Birmingham Stallions last season.

Oakes, a former standout at Eastern Michigan University, joins the Lions after spending the past two seasons with the Michigan Panthers.
