Breaking: Commanders Lose 2-Time Champion To Devastating Season Ending Injury (Report)

The Washington Commanders are ready to prove that the 2024 season was no fluke and that they’re here to compete for a championship. With rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, Washington appeared in their first NFC Championship game since the 1986-87 seasons.

However, this year has gotten off to a tough start.

According to reports, Lucas Niang, the new offensive tackle for the Washington Commanders, tore his ACL:

Niang joined the team in late July and was battling for a roster spot after an injury-laden spell with the Kansas City Chiefs, with whom he won two Super Bowls. But this unfortunate development has brought an abrupt halt to what appeared to be a promising comeback.

The 26-year-old was drafted in the third round in 2020 but opted out of his rookie deal because of COVID-19 concerns. He went on to start nine games in 2021 before tearing a patellar tendon.

He spent much of the following three seasons between the PUP list and the practice squad.

This new injury comes as a devastating blow to a player who was keen on getting his career back on track, and it’s likely to cause him to miss the entire season, as recovery from ACL reconstruction usually takes nine months to a year, while his history of lower-body injuries could further complicate things.

Niang was competing with veterans Andrew Wylie and Trent Scott for a swing tackle role behind starters Laremy Tunsil and rookie Josh Conerly.

We wish him a speedy recovery.

Here is a look at Niang’s career game logs:
