Lakers’ Luka Dončić Has Lost Weight; But How Much, Exactly?

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić has transformed his body this summer.

Luka has been balling out for Team Slovenia in exhibitions leading up to the 2025 EuroBasket tournament (which starts on August 27), and Dončić looks noticeably slimmer.

Not surprisingly, social media has gone wild over Luka’s weight loss. Rumors began swirling shortly after the NBA season that Luka was undergoing a change, but without ample footage or photos of Dončić, no one knew for sure what to believe.

Now that Luka’s new body has been unveiled, the new question has become, how much weight has he actually lost?

A new report from Dallas Hoops Journal’s Ashish Mathur answered that question over the weekend.

“NBA superstar Luka Dončić of the Los Angeles Lakers has lost 30 pounds since last summer, a league source told DallasHoopsJournal.com,” Mathur wrote. “Dončić was listed at 230 pounds with the Dallas Mavericks and Lakers last season. He’s at 200 pounds right now, the source said.”

While NBA weight and height listings should be taken with a grain of salt (as should Mathur’s report), it’s not outlandish to assume that Dončić has shed at least 20 pounds, just based on an eye test comparing his current body with what he looked like for the Lakers last season.

It’ll be fascinating to see how Luka’s new body responds once the 2025-26 season tips off in October. Luka’s frame is looking like it did when he entered the league in 2018. In Luka’s defense, his poor conditioning didn’t stop him from producing for Los Angeles last year. In 28 games with the Lakers, Dončić averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game.

Furthermore, despite a first-round loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the postseason, Dončić delivered offensively against the Wolves, averaging 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game in the series.

Dončić signed a three-year, $165 million extension with Los Angeles on August 2.
