NFL legend Jim Kelly and his family are undergoing an extraordinarily difficult time right now and are asking for fans' prayers. On July 9, Kelly's eldest child, Erin, and her husband Parker Bean, welcomed their first child, a boy named Beau Hunter Bean. But as Kelly wrote on Instagram on July 13, the baby was born with "unexpected medical complications."
It has been an arduous journey for the family as "Little Bean," as the family refers to him, has undergone a procedure and had to be on a ventilator, medication and increased oxygen. The ventilator has been removed and Little Bean is no longer on oxygen, but he has not been able to be weaned off the medication yet.
On Monday, August 11, the doctors will try once again to wean the baby off of the medication, and Kelly's wife Jill is asking for everyone's prayers.
"Tomorrow at 5 a.m. the doctors will turn off Little Bean's (Beau)'s medication and our hope and prayer is that God will intervene and allow him to come off the medication. Please pray that his heart will be able to handle coming off and that his oxygen saturation will increase rather than decrease. And that it will be an easy process with no complications.
"Please pray that Beau's heart will heal and function optimally. Please pray for Erin and Parker during this process because it can be very difficult and traumatic. And would you also pray that God will perform a miracle for Beau and that the doctors and staff would be amazed. God's plans are better and always beyond our ability to fully comprehend. THANK YOU FOR PRAYING and standing with us. To God be the glory!"
Kelly's daughter Erin has understandably not been posting much about their harrowing ordeal since Little Bean's birth, leaving it to her parents to keep friends and fans updated. But she wrote a post on Sunday evening thanking everyone for their prayers and support.
"Beau Hunter Bean… ♥️ You have forever changed our lives. You are a miracle and a testimony of God's immense love. We love you more than we thought possible. ♥️
"Thank you to everyone who has prayed for Little Bean and our family! Your encouragement and support have meant so much to us. Please continue to pray for healing for Beau's heart… especially this week! We will share more about his incredible little life when the time is right.
"For those who don't know Beau's story yet, please see @jillmkelly and @jimkelly1212 as they have been sharing updates on our behalf."
Little Bean's middle name is a special one for the Kelly family. Jim and Jill Kelly's middle child was a son named Hunter, who was born with a rare disorder called Krabbe Disease, which is a fatal nervous system disease. He was not expected to live past the age of 3, reported ESPN at the time of Hunter's death in 2005 at the age of 8.
Kelly played 10 years at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls from 1991 to 1994.
