Fabio Silva is expected to leave Wolves this summer as he approaches the final year of his contract at Molineux

New AS Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has reportedly made Wolves forward Fabio Silva his No.1 striker target this summer.

The experienced Italian coach joined the capital side this summer after an incredible nine-year association with Atalanta which had seen him win the Europa League, reach the final of the Coppa Italia and qualify for the Champions League on five separate occasions.

Since joining Roma he’s already added Brighton’s Evan Ferguson to the team’s frontline but it now seems that he’s also intending to bring Silva to the football club despite the Portuguese international’s underwhelming five-year stint at Molineux.

Roma plot move for Fabio Silva

Reports from the Corriere dello Sport today suggest that Fabio Silva remains Roma’s number-one target to further reinforce their attack this summer, despite rival interest from Borussia Dortmund. Silva is approaching the final season of his contract at Molineux this summer and is expected to be surplus to requirements after failing to live up to the expensive £35m price tag that Nuno Espirito Santo splashed out to prise him away from FC Porto as a teenager.

Silva has scored five league goals in 72 appearances for the Old Gold, with just four of those strikes coming in the Premier League. He had mixed results during loan stints at Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven and Rangers but did impress last term during a season-long stint at Las Palmas in La Liga.

The 23-year-old scored a total of 10 goals in 25 matches, including strikes against Barcelona and Real Madrid while also chipping in with three assists. However, ultimately that was not enough to keep the Canary Islands outfit in the top-flight as they suffered relegation. It’s thought that Gian Piero Gasperini sees potential in the young forward based on that loan spell which has convinced Roma chiefs that he’s worth targeting.

Wolves receive opening offer for Fabio Silva

The bid of £17.3 million, in total, is a little short of what Wolves want for the Portuguese, though Gordon has reported that there is little distance between the valuations “as talks continue.”

Dortmund reached the final of the Champions League in 2024 but had a season to forget domestically last time out, falling to fourth position and picking up just 57 points - their lowest tally since 2018.Silva would offer depth to the likes of Serhou Guirassy and Maximilian Beier, with Sebastian Haller seemingly being surplus to requirements at Signal Iduna Park.
