Former Celtic right-back Jeremie Frimpong was back on the big stage at the weekend, scoring for Liverpool in the FA Community Shield against Crystal Palace.
The 24-year-old, who left Parkhead in January 2021, netted his side’s second goal in a match that eventually finished 2-2 before Palace claimed the trophy on penalties.

Frimpong struck in the 21st minute, showing the same electric pace and attacking intent that Celtic supporters remember fondly. Arriving late into the box, he finished smartly to restore Liverpool’s lead after Palace had levelled from the spot. It was another reminder of how far he has come since swapping Glasgow for the Bundesliga four years ago.
The Dutch international joined Bayer Leverkusen after leaving Celtic, where he developed into one of Europe’s most exciting wing-backs. His time in Germany brought a Bundesliga title under Xabi Alonso and a Europa League final appearance, achievements that cemented his reputation as a modern, attack-minded full-back.
Liverpool’s summer signing of Frimpong was viewed as a major coup, and he has wasted little time showing his value. His goal at Wembley was his second in pre-season and his first competitive strike for the Anfield club.
For Celtic fans, it’s no surprise to see him making an impact, his fearless style and relentless energy were hallmarks of his game from the moment he broke into Neil Lennon’s side in 2019.
Frimpong made 51 appearances for Celtic, winning the Premiership, Scottish Cup and League Cup before his departure. While the club banked a healthy transfer fee, his continued rise has only enhanced the reputation of Celtic’s player development model.

Watching him shine in a Liverpool shirt at Wembley, there’s a sense of pride among supporters who saw his potential early. Frimpong’s career trajectory, from Celtic Park to Leverkusen glory and now scoring in an English showpiece, is a reminder of the pathway the club can offer young talents.
As he now looks to make his mark in the Premier League, his latest performance suggests he’s ready for the challenge. For Celtic, Frimpong’s success story is another example of the talent that has passed through Glasgow and gone on to thrive at the highest level.
