Rutter has been playing the No.9 role throughout pre-season and scored the opening goal in a 2-1 friendly win over Wolfsburg.
Danny Welbeck, meanwhile, led the attack in a 2-0 win over the same German club behind closed doors.
Rutter has said he prefers a role off the frontman.
Asked what he likes about the Frenchman leading the attack, Albion boss Hurzeler said: “Goals, like today.
“I think that's the main thing, and he's always an option to play with.
“He's very playable in his position, he tries to find good solutions, he's a danger in the opponent's box, he knows how to use his team-mates, so therefore I'm quite happy with him.”
Asked whether he faces a big call between Rutter and Welbeck at centre-forward, the head coach replied: “No, it's not a decision between him and Danny.
“They played last season also together, so it's not a decision between these two players.”
