AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw is set to soon complete a move to Newcastle United.
Massimiliano Allegri was an admirer and was keen on keeping him. Milan made a late attempt to convince the centre-back to snub Newcastle, by offering a contract worth €3m net per year.
The Italian media reported this on Sunday and then stated Milan accepted Newcastle’s bid of €40m including bonuses. It was also said the defender will travel to England on Monday to undergo medical tests with the Magpies.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports the 24-year-old arrived at Milan’s Linate Airport on Sunday, ahead of his trip to the UK. Therefore, he wasn’t with the Rossoneri squad that travelled to London to face Chelsea in a friendly at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
The Germany international arrived at the San Siro from Schalke in 2022. He spoke to Gianlucadimarzio.com to discuss his spell at the San Siro and his move to the Premier League side.
“These three years have been a pleasure. I’ve learned so much. I’ve grown as a footballer, but above all as a person. I only want the best for everyone I’ve shared this journey with the players and the staff,” he said.
“My fondest memory? I think the Champions League journey to the semifinals; it was incredible.
“Happy with this choice? Yes, but it was a pleasure playing for Milan. Ready for the Premier League? Yes, bye everyone!”
Allegri was asked about the centre-back’s impending sale to Newcastle and Gazzetta dello Sport have relayed his comments.
“He was an important player, and it’s a shame he’s gone, but the club is moving well. This is the transfer market, and we’re making sure we’re ready,” Allegri explained.
Journalist Luca Bendoni posted a video of Thiaw outside the airport on X, formerly known as Twitter.
