RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons is said to be keen on joining Chelsea this summer.
Last week, Bild reported the attacking midfielder is desperate to leave the Bundesliga side for Chelsea, after agreeing personal terms with them.
The latest claims from the UK and the Dutch press have reported Chelsea offering €40m plus Christopher Nkunku for the 22-year-old.
Nkunku spent four years at the German club before leaving them for Chelsea in 2023. A fresh report from Bild looks at these claims and provides Leipzig’s stance on the 27-year-old and Simons.
Leipzig still view the France international as an interesting player but aren’t considering him as part of the deal for Simons. Bild claims their former player ‘no longer fits into their salary structure’.
Nkunku is said to be earning €20m per year with the Blues and Leipzig can’t afford that, especially when they are looking to part ways with their top earners. Therefore, they are rejecting a swap deal for the Netherlands international.
Despite this, Bild reports Simons’ sale is ‘still absolutely possible’ and Leipzig ‘won’t put any obstacles’ for Chelsea to sign him, if they meet their €70m demand.
