'Nonsense': Alan Shearer slams Newcastle United after making Alexander Isak to Liverpool…

Alan Shearer has told Newcastle United exactly what to do with Alexander Isak, as Liverpool continue to circle.

The Alexander Isak situation refuses to go away, with three weeks remaining in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United do not want to sell Isak, and have made that clear to the man himself. As it stands, he is going nowhere.

No matter what happens, the 25-year-old’s future has dominated what has been a wildly frustrating summer for Newcastle United.

Alan Shearer recognises that frustration, and is disappointed that the club have not kicked on after winning the Carabao Cup and qualifying for the Champions League.

Alan Shearer begs Newcastle United to sort out the Alexander Isak situation

Speaking on the latest episode of the Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer has criticised the club for their inability to appoint a new chief executive and sporting director. Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell are yet to be replaced, despite the latter confirming his decision to leave back in September 2024.

Shearer has described the situation as ‘nonsense’, before imploring the Magpies to sort out the Alexander Isak debacle.

“It has been a disaster for them,” he said.

“After what should have been a time for Newcastle to kick on after winning a trophy and getting into the Champions League, it was the time to go out and buy three or four big players. I thought that was going to happen.

“For whatever reason, I’ve said about the chief executive and the sporting director, I think it’s nonsense they haven’t had those in. Whether that’s hampered them or not, I guess it has.

“They need to sort the situation out as quick as possible with Isak. I guess he stays until they get someone in. Eddie can maybe talk him around. They needed a forward anyway, so they need two centre-forwards now.”

Alan Shearer predicts what will happen if Liverpool sign Alexander Isak

While Newcastle plan to keep Isak, a move to Liverpool cannot be ruled out.

If the Sweden international were to swap St James’ Park for Anfield, Shearer believes there would be no one capable of stopping Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

“If they were to get him, the options they would have up top would be incredible,” he said.

“They would be impossible to stop if they got Isak.”

Signing Isak would give Liverpool some incredible options in attack. They have Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo, while they have brought in Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz already this summer.

However, there is still a need for reinforcements under Arne Slot. Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have been sold, while Liverpool also continue to deal with the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

As it stands, Newcastle are not going to sell Isak this summer. Letting him go without acquiring a sufficient replacement would be negligent, and it is currently difficult to pick out a forward that would be up to the task.

Having missed out on attackers such as Joao Pedro, the aforementioned Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, Newcastle’s striker options are dwindling. That will be the decisive factor in Isak’s future, regardless of his desire to leave.
