FC Barcelona have just recently dismantled Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy. While the Italian team is no easy side to beat, having been unbeaten in preseason before this, La Blaugrana were simply too much for them. Moreover, a major contributor to that victory was Fermin Lopez.
Scoring two great goals and even coming away with the MVP award after the match, Lopez had an excellent performance. Moreover, despite reports suggesting that he will not be leaving the club this summer, the player himself confirmed his intentions after the game.
As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the 22-year-old Spanish midfielder spoke about the game after it ended and commended the team’s display:
“It was a great team performance, and this kind of match will be good for us. Hard work is non-negotiable, high pressing too — just like last year, when we did really well. We have to keep going in the same way.”

As for his future, Lopez put any rumours or links to bed once and for all:
“I want to stay here — it’s my dream, and I will stay. I’m happy to help the team. A lot has been said, but I’m going to keep defending these colors and working harder than anyone. The fans can relax.”
He even gave his verdict on the new signings at Barcelona, and briefly touched on the topic of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen as well, who ended up addressing the fans ahead of the game:
“The new guys are doing great — they’ll help us a lot. Marc is our first captain, and we respect him a lot. What happened were external things.”
After a top performance like that, the selection headaches for Hansi Flick continue to get more complicated. At the very least, Lopez should have put himself as a strong contender for that central attacking midfield role for the official season.
