Chelsea kicked off the VisitMalta Weekender with a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge. It was their first friendly match since lifting the FIFA Club World Cup for the second time in the club’s history.
The win was sealed late in the game when Joao Pedro latched onto a diagonal pass through the middle and drilled a low, powerful shot beyond the goalkeeper.
The fixture served as an important pre-season workout ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Following the match, Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef, joined by Chairperson Charles Mangion, presented the trophy to captain Reece James.
The VisitMalta sponsorship showcased Malta as a lively and attractive travel destination, with promotional displays both at Stamford Bridge and at Fulham Broadway station. Chelsea’s next fixture is against AC Milan on Sunday.
