Sunderland make initial contact for English defender – Two sources cover interest

In June, TuttoSport mentioned Crystal Palace as a candidate to land Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly. Now, Sunderland have emerged as a suitor for the Englishman.

The 26-year-old joined the Old Lady from Newcastle United on a permanent basis earlier this summer after an initial loan stint, but he has failed to impress during his time in Turin.

This can lead to his early departure from Juventus and Gazzetta dello Sport report that Sunderland are interested in signing Kelly this summer.

The newspaper claimed in a report on Sunday that the Black Cats have made initial contact for the player.

While Kelly isn’t too keen on an exit, Juve will look to sell him on if Sunderland offer over €18m to €20m this summer.

Something similar has been relayed by today’s La Repubblica, who claim that the centre-back can depart the Bianconeri this summer as Igor Tudor’s side look to potentially earn a capital profit from his exit.

Kelly cost Juve a total fee of €20m and that includes the initial fee of €3m and the fee which cost them for the permanent move.
