Nottingham Forest transfer blow as bid rejected for Champions League midfielder

Nottingham Forest have seen a bid worth around £11.3 million rejected by AS Monaco for Soungoutou Magassa, according to reports.

The 21-year-old, who plays primarily as a defensive midfielder but can be utilised as a centre-back, has a contract at the Stade Louis II until 2029.

L'Equipe reports the Reds are one of many teams across Europe to have taken an interest in acquiring his services, with the player's future at the Ligue 1 outfit uncertain.

The French news outlet says Nuno Espirito Santo is the first to make a move, and though it states the fee remains undisclosed, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says different.

In a post on X, the journalist revealed: "Nottingham Forest have sent €13m fixed fee (around £11.3 million) plus add-ons as official bid for Soungoutou Magassa.

"AS Monaco want €18m plus add-ons to accept and let the defender go. Magassa, keen on NFFC move with Premier League and European football."

Magassa, who came through Les Rouge et Blanc academy, played 31 times across all competitions last season, including seven times in the UEFA Champions League, as he scored one goal and notched a single assist.
