Man City should now sell Savinho's £40m teammate to Tottenham instead, Spurs keen on move -…

Savinho’s potential move to Tottenham Hotspur would especially be surprising as Manchester City kick their 2025/2026 Premier League campaign off on Saturday against Wolves.

However, Savinho is open to signing for Tottenham and it is worth remembering that in recent years, City have sold their players to fellow Premier League clubs — with Cole Palmer’s move to Chelsea being the standout example.

While Oscar Bobb has shown huge signs of promise out wide, Manchester City would lack a natural right-winger in their squad if the Brazilian becomes a Spurs player this summer.

Jeremy Doku played on the right-wing at Rennes but since his move to the Etihad Stadium in 2023, he has looked far more at ease on the left flank.

Man City should offer Tottenham the chance to sign James McAtee instead of Savinho

It is important to note that Manchester City do not wish to sell Savinho but they have held talks with Tottenham about his potential exit and would demand upwards of £50 million from his sale.

However, instead of even entertaining the former Atletico Mineiro wonderkid’s move to Thomas Frank’s side, City should instead be open to letting them sign James McAtee.

Tottenham could renew their interest in McAtee after losing James Maddison to an unfortunate ACL injury and with Dejan Kulusevski being ruled out of action after injuring his patella last season.

Unlike Savinho, who started 21 games in the Premier League last season, his teammate was named just three times in Pep Guardiola’s line-ups during the previous campaign.

Manchester City are demanding £40 million for McAtee, which would be lesser than the fee they would like Tottenham to pay to sign Savinho — who has proven his worth as a far more vital player to Guardiola.

With Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and Bobb all being natural attacking midfielders, it is unlikely the Salford-born starlet plays a significant role at City next season and as a result, the club should look to cash in on him.

James McAtee has already decided whether he would move to a Premier League club

In Savinho, Manchester City have one of the most talented wingers in the world at their disposal — as he has the quick feet, incredible pace over long distances, eye for a pass and technical quality to become a world-class player one day.

Furthermore, City surely must have signed the Brazilian with the view that he could grow into a superstar one day and helping him bide his time so he can reach the standards of some of their former wingers like Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.

Similarly, even the player’s desire to sign for the Lilywhites comes as surprise, considering he was heavily involved during his debut season at the Etihad Stadium.

Considering McAtee wishes to stay in the Premier League, Manchester City should theoretically not have a hard time in offloading him to Tottenham and keeping Savinho on their books.

However, taking into account Pep Guardiola’s history of letting unsettled players leave, the youngster’s move to Spurs seems inevitable when considering the past.
