Newcastle United have completed the signing of the Liverpool midfielder.
Isak wants to join the Premier League champions this summer and is doing all he can to force the move, with the striker currently training alone at the Magpies’ training ground when his teammates aren’t in the building.
The 25-year-old sat out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a “minor thigh issue” and instead travelled to Spain - without permission - to train at former club Real Sociedad.
Isak returned to Tyneside last week and despite being injury-free, isn’t training or playing with his teammates, despite Eddie Howe revealing his wish to see him back with the group.
The Swede missed the weekend matches against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid, and won’t be involved in the Premier League opener away to Aston Villa on Saturday. Read into that what you will.
Newcastle United club statement confirms Liverpool signing
But while the Isak saga rumbles on, Newcastle have completed a Liverpool swoop of their own, announcing that 16-year-old Isaac Moran has joined the academy.
A club statement on Monday read: “Newcastle United can announce that Isaac Moran has joined the club’s Academy from Liverpool.
“Moran, a 16-year-old England youth international, will link up with Chris Moore’s under-18s squad as a first-year scholar. Moran has risen through the youth ranks at Liverpool, making his debut for the Reds under-18s side as a 15-year-old in March 2024.
“The defender has captained England at youth level, where he has been capped six times at under-15 level.”
Academy director Steve Harper commented: “Isaac joins us with a strong pedigree and a maturity beyond his years.
“The leadership qualities he has displayed to date speak volumes about his character, and we’re excited to help him continue developing both as a player and a person. He’s a driven individual who fits the values of our Academy perfectly.”
“Isaac’s addition to the Academy reflects the continued excellence of our recruitment team, whose efforts remain integral to our long-term strategy.”
Isaac Moran announces Liverpool departure
Moran announced via Instagram he was leaving Liverpool last week.
“I have made the tough decision to leave Liverpool Football Club,” Moran wrote. “I want it to be known that this decision was not taken lightly and I have been honoured to represent the club, but I believe it’s best for my career and future opportunities to go elsewhere.
“I would like to thank all of my teammates, coaches and staff for all their hard work over these past 10 years, in not only shaping me to be the footballer I am, but most importantly the person I am today. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you. YNWA 🔴”
Eddie Howe comments on Alexander Isak situation
Back to Isak situation and speaking on Friday, Howe explained: “We've had discussions and it's clear at the moment that we can't involve him with the group. So, yeah, I don't know how long that will be for. That's the latest.
“He's here, of course he has a future at Newcastle. Certainly from our perspective, everyone connected with the club, we would love to see him back with the team. But the situation has to be right for that time.
“I'd want Alex to be playing today. I'd want him training tomorrow. We would love the player to be with us. Let me make that absolutely clear, there is no part of me that doesn’t want that outcome. But I don’t see that changing [the current situation] before Aston Villa.”
