Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has confirmed he expects attacker Leandro Trossard to be available for Sunday's Premier League opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Trossard missed both of Arsenal's final two pre-season friendlies after sustaining a groin injury in their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur during their pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong.

After missing the Gunners' 3-2 defeat to Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium last Wednesday, some supporters were hopeful of seeing the Belgian back in action for Saturday's 3-0 win over Athletic Club.

However, he was again absent from the matchday squad, sparking fears he could miss the Premier League curtain-raiser at Old Trafford.

Arteta, though, is confident he will be in contention to make the squad for the clash with United, explaining: "I think he's going to be [okay] in a few days, yes, a little niggle in the groin. But he should be fine."

Trossard featured in all three of Arsenal's tour friendlies, starting the 3-2 win over Newcastle United and coming off the bench against both AC Milan and Tottenham.

The 30-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, was a regular fixture for the Londoners last season, making 56 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with 10 goals and 10 assists.

Trossard scored the winner for Arsenal when they won 1-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League in May last year.

Elsewhere, the only other injury concern playing on Arteta's mind ahead of the trip to M16 is Gabriel Jesus, who has not played since January and remains a long-term absentee.
