Landon Dickerson's latest news has Eagles fans bracing for the worst

Sunday night's public practice in Lincoln Financial Field was supposed to be a fun time with Philadelphia Eagles fans getting to see their team on the field preparing for their Super Bowl title defense run. It turned into a nightmare with one of their top players getting hurt.

Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson got hurt on a play while backing up in pass protection as he was favoring his right leg. Dickerson ended up getting carted off to the locker room for further evaluation.

The extent of his injury is unknown as Eagles fans wait to hear about the seriousness of the injury. It certain changed the tone of the whole practice with everyone eagerly waiting to hear how bad it is.

What is plan B if Dickerson is out for an extended period?

Being injured is not anything new for Dickerson. Last year, he battled through a left knee injury in the playoffs that caused him to exit early from the NFC Championship game against the Washington Commanders. He did not miss the Super Bowl game against the Kansas City Chiefs. After the season, Dickerson got surgery on that left knee.

During his four-year NFL career, Dickerson has missed five games. He's an essential piece to the offensive line after three straight years being selected for the Pro Bowl.

The Eagles have had their fill of needing to switch in and out linemen from the lineup, as evidenced by the fact that both Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson missed time last year due to injury. Philly's depth on the offensive line will be able to hold it together should Dickerson's injury become serious.

So what are the options in Dickerson's absence? Brett Toth was taking first-team reps at left guard while Dickerson was out. Kenyon Green is another option, but he got hurt in the preseason win against the Cincinnati Bengals so who knows how long he will be out.

Philadelphia is a bit banged up on the offensive line right now, but there is enough talent that the team will be able to fight through it. Eagles fans hope that Dickerson will be okay and be back before the Week 1 regular season matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.
