There has been plenty of twists and turns this summer, and it seems it’s far from the end for Liverpool FC.
The club’s remarkable £260 million summer spending spree has drawn intense scrutiny, but Arne Slot has consistently defended the approach by emphasizing their historically prudent net spend compared to Premier League rivals.
The Dutch manager argues that Liverpool’s current outlay is justified by years of conservative transfer activity and substantial player sales:
“At a club like Liverpool, it is quite normal that players stay where they are,” Slot said ahead of the Community Shield.
“But I think people tend to forget at the moment much money we brought in not only this summer, but also last summer.”
“Last summer, we had a big plus. We earned more than we spent. This summer, people also forget that we have lost Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.”
And now it looks another player sale could occur very soon.
Taking to X, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Kostas Tsimikas is expected to leave this summer, and that he was left out of the squad vs Crystal Palace on Sunday for this reason:
“Kostas Tsimikas, expected to leave Liverpool as he’s been left out of the squad against Palace for this reason,” he wrote.
“Player prepared to go and try new chapter, already got approached by Nottingham Forest earlier in the window.”
For Kostas Tsimikas, who has long served as backup to Andy Robertson, the arrival of another young full-back in Milos Kerkez was always going to raise fresh questions over his role at Anfield.
Since joining Liverpool in August 2020, Tsimikas has rarely displaced Andy Robertson as first-choice left-back.
Even during Robertson’s occasional absences – due to minor injuries or rotation – the Greek international has found it difficult to nail down a regular starting berth.
And it seems that the 29-year-old is now finally expected to bid farewell to Anfield with no place for him in Arne Slot’s plans.
Tsimikas is a well-liked member of the playing staff and is a bubbly personality in the dressing room.
His departure will certainly be felt by both his teammates and the Anfield faithful should he depart the club.
