Roma are thought to be preparing a move for Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho. The 25-year-old informed the Reds of his desire to explore different opportunities earlier this summer, after spending last season on loan at Chelsea.

Sancho scored five goals and provided 10 assists in 41 matches as Enzo Maresca's side won the Conference League and finished in the top four. However, despite having a £25million obligation to make the move permanent, the Blues decided to pay a £5m penalty fee to send him back to United.

The England international has not played a single minute for the Reds in pre-season and has been training alone. He doesn't feature as part of Ruben Amorim's plans and is allowed to leave United again this summer.

Now, it has emerged that Roma have entered the race for the ex-Borussia Dortmund man. Indeed, according to reports in Italy, I Giallorossi are considering a surprise swoop to sign Sancho from United.

Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini reputedly wants to break the bank and bring Sancho to Stadio Olimpico, despite the fact he could take up a considerable amount of their transfer budget. Roma sporting director Frederic Massara, meanwhile, is thought to be focused on a loan deal for Manchester City's Claudio Echeverri.

The Serie A club are light on the left-hand side and Sancho has been identified as a top target. It's speculated that deal, including a fee and his gross salary, could be worth between £69m and £78m.

Sancho had been in talks with another Italian club, Juventus, but a possible switch has since stalled due to Nico Gonzalez's failure to leave. Inter Milan also expressed an interest in the United forward.

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl had earlier this month confirmed that the club was discussing bringing Sancho back to Signal Iduna Park. "[Jadon] is constantly being linked with us," Kehl said.

"I understand the desire. We're thinking about it within our possibilities. The conditions have to be right. We will definitely do something, but we're limited."

Despite this, Sancho is still at United and there is a hope that a deal can be sorted for him to leave before the end of the transfer window. He last kicked a ball in anger during the Conference League final for Chelsea against Real Betis and has had a limited pre-season, having not trained with his United teammates.
