Leeds United's opening day opponents Everton are set to sign Jack Grealish on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Multiple outlets have reported that the Toffees, who visit Elland Road a week today, have agreed a deal for the attacking midfielder.
The Athletic say Grealish is due to undergo a medical at the Merseyside club today ahead of finalising the switch. The 29-year-old, who has won the Premier League three times with City, struggled for regular game time at the Etihad Stadium last season. The England international made only 16 starts across all competitions last season and just seven in the Premier League.
Grealish, formerly of Aston Villa, has fallen out of favour under manager Pep Guardiola and was not included in the City squad who travelled to the United States for this summer’s Club World Cup. Guardiola has an array of attacking talent at his disposal, including Phil Foden, Savinho, Jeremy Doku, Kevin De Bruyne, Omar Marmoush and Bernardo Silva. It remains to be seen what the long term future holds for Grealish, who cost City a then British record of £100m back in 2021. He still has two years left to run on his current City contract. The versatile forward has played 157 times for City, scoring 17 goals and providing 23 assists.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano expects Grealish to complete his move to Everton "in the next 24 hours". A deal for Grealish would see him become Everton’s fifth summer addition, following on from the arrivals of Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Toffees boss David Moyes is sweating over the fitness after Vitalii Mykolenko after the defender was forced off with a knock in their pre-season against Roma.
