Manchester United remain in contact with Brighton for Carlos Baleba, but it remains a difficult deal to secure his signature, according to Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.
After building a new frontline at Old Trafford, United will be turning their attention to bringing in reinforcements in other areas of the pitch. Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha have all arrived through the door in the summer transfer window, giving Ruben Amorim plenty of options in the final third ahead of the new Premier League season.
After such a disappointing 2024/2025 campaign, there's no doubt the Red Devils will be hoping to bring in further additions to help them head back in the right direction. Adding a new midfielder could be their next priority, with Brighton's Baleba a player of interest for the Manchester club.
Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd Remain in Contact for Baleba

Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has confirmed that Manchester United remain in contact to sign Baleba, with the Red Devils in talks with his representatives over a potential move. Club-to-club negotiations won't be easy, with Romano suggesting that it will be 'difficult' when it comes to Brighton agreeing to a deal.
"Contacts still ongoing on the player side. Let's see what happens between clubs, but it remains very difficult with Brighton."
The Seagulls have notoriously held out for significant fees to allow their star players to depart in the past, and you'd imagine Baleba will be no different. Brighton's model is based on signing young, up-and-coming players before selling them for a hefty profit, and Baleba could be next on the list if United are willing to cough up the cash.
Baleba only signed for Brighton in 2023, joining the club for a fee of around £23m. Understandably, Fabian Hurzeler's side don't want to lose Baleba in the summer transfer window, particularly with only a couple of weeks remaining before the market closes, so it could be an expensive deal for United to get over the line.
United have their new attack in place for the start of the Premier League season, and it will be interesting to see whether they can bring in further additions before the new campaign. Amorim's side host Arsenal in their opening fixture on Sunday, before travelling to Fulham. The Red Devils end August with a home game against newly promoted Burnley.
