What Newcastle's Alexander Isak'ultimatum'means for Chelsea and Nicolas Jackson transfer

With the Premier League just days away from starting, the transfer market has already left its mark on many teams, with vast sums of money spent.

Liverpool look to be the heaviest spenders so far this summer despite winning the Premier League last season, while the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal won't be too far behind.

Arne Slot's team have completed the biggest transfer of the summer so far, the only team to have spent over £100million on a single transfer with Florian Wirtz joining from Bayer Leverkusen. But they may not be done just yet.

In what is turning out to be one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer, the Reds are targeting a move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Swedish star has been coveted by a number of teams since joining Newcastle, with Arsenal considering a move for some time.

However, Liverpool made their move earlier in the summer with a bid around the £110million mark.

That was swiftly rejected by the Magpies, but it has created a fracture in the relationship with Isak. The striker pulled out of their pre-season tour of Asia, going back to former club Real Sociedad's training ground to work on his fitness.

Since his return to England, the striker has been back at Newcastle's training ground, but working on his own with his future still up in the air. According to our friends at the Chronicle, the club have laid down an ultimatum on his future: if there is no offer that the club deem to be "serious" for his future, then he will not be leaving, with rumours of an acceptable fee between £130million and £150million.

That decision could have a serious knock-on effect for players elsewhere, with rumours about who Newcastle would target before the end of the transfer window - though a number, such as Hugo Ekitike, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have turned down a move in favour of other clubs.

One of the players to have been linked in recent weeks is Chelsea's own Nicolas Jackson. The 24-year-old looks to have fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this summer following the arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in attacking roles.

Meanwhile, the striker was left out of the Blues' two pre-season fixtures over the course of the weekend after an agreement with the club was reached so that he can explore opportunities to leave.

Jackson's preferred destination is even rumoured to be Newcastle, but should the situation with Isak drag on it leaves question marks over whether a deal would be done this summer.

Isak has made it clear he wants to leave, but whether he can force through a move could have a big impact on Chelsea and Jackson's future.
