Alan Smith believes Arsenal striker could leave this summer

Arsenal icon Alan Smith has hinted that Gabriel Jesus could be on his way out of the club this summer.

Alan Smith hints Arsenal exit

Alan Smith believes the time might be right for Gabriel Jesus to seek a fresh challenge away from Arsenal. The former Gunners striker spoke about the club’s summer moves to the Metro.

He pointed out that the Brazilian has had a tough run with injuries since his arrival in North London. Now, Mikel Arteta is blessed with plenty of attacking choices. So, Smith feels Jesus may find himself pushed down the pecking order.

Arsenal has recently added Viktor Gyokeres to their squad to make their attacking options more stronger. Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and Mikel Merino have all played central attacking roles.

🗣️#Arsenal legend Alan Smith thinks Gabriel Jesus should leave the Gunners this summer: “I think somebody like Gabriel Jesus might go given his track record with injuries. He might be one that you say, thanks, and try and move him on, get a bit of money in. Obviously, with Viktor… pic.twitter.com/IaJ1L2GX8v

Smith was full of praise for the club’s recent transfer window. He described the arrivals as smart signings, but admitted that Jesus’ place looks less secure than ever. Although, he admires the forward’s undoubted talent and work rate. But, he warned that his recurring fitness issues make him a risky option.

New-look attack shines in pre-season

Arsenal fans got a glimpse of life after Jesus in the recent 3-0 friendly win over Athletic Bilbao. Gyokeres opened his account with a confident finish, while substitute Noni Madueke added spark and pace to the attack. The performance underlined just how much Arteta’s squad has evolved over the summer.

There’s also talk of one more attacking addition to be added this summer. Crystal Palace player Eberechi Eze is said to be linked with a move to Arsenal.

For Jesus, it could be the beginning of the end. Making this move could help him return to form. This could mean the team is still moving forward in a different direction. That said, an exit is likely to give Arsenal the space to continue their rebuild.
