Elland Road being expanded in the next few years could not have come at a better time for the 49ers Enterprises. Leeds’ owners earned a huge windfall from the NFL last season.

The 49ers enterprises have experienced a substantial financial boost. Leeds’ ownership generated £131 million in stadium revenue last season from their NFL team. This marks the third consecutive year they have led the rankings. This income translates to approximately £8 million per NFL regular season game. In comparison, Leeds earned just under £31 million during the same period, averaging about £650,000 per match at Elland Road.

Last season, Leeds generated £31million from Elland Road, which was the highest in the Championship. And with the planned expansion of the stadium, the club could be looking at closer to £40million, which is close to some of the biggest teams in the country.

Phil Hay makes joke about Elland Road expansion

Last week saw the closure of the the public consultation process for Leeds’ Elland Road redevelopment planning application. The club were seeking more feedback before the deadline with over 700 comments.

Phil Hay, who has covered Leeds for many years made a tongue in cheek suggestion when it comes to what he wants to see at Elland Road. Hay posted a picture of an old telephone in the press box with the caption “Be disappointed if the new Elland Road West Stand press box doesn’t include a 1990s landline phone.
