Liverpool are reportedly ready to pay the waiting game in their pursuit of Newcastle United attacking mainstay Alexander Isak.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Liverpool still remain keen on acquiring the services of Alexander Isak this summer. The Reds are willing to bide their time, hoping that Newcastle United will change their stance with regards to the future of the Swedish international.
Isak’s future has been a big talking point since the start of the summer, and Liverpool have been closely monitoring his situation. The Reds are aware that the Magpies have no intention of negotiating his departure; as a result, they initially focused on signing other top targets.
Having done the majority of their transfer business early in the window, the Merseyside club have shifted their focus towards Isak. Liverpool already have the green light from Alexander Isak’s end, but negotiations with Newcastle United have not been easy.
After Isak handed in a transfer request, Liverpool did table a substantial offer, but the Magpies turned it down straightaway. As a result, the Reds decided against making an improved offer unless Eddie Howe’s team change their stance.
While reports earlier suggested that the Premier League champions will restart negotiations with Newcastle United on Monday following the departure of Darwin Nunez, the report from Caught Offside states they will play the waiting game.

The Anfield hierarchy view Alexander Isak as a priority target for the number nine role, but they are in no rush to get it done. Liverpool are biding their time and hoping that the Magpies will loosen their stance and sit at the negotiation table, as the Swede has his heart set on a move away.
The 25-year-old wants to join the Merseyside club, and he has no intention of penning a new deal with the Tyneside club. For now, Newcastle United are reluctant to let him leave, but there are signs that suggest the situation could change. Eddie Howe recently said that he only wants players who are keen on playing for the club.
Alexander Isak’s determination to secure an exit and Nunez’s departure have increased Liverpool’s chances of securing his services. However, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle do actually change their stance, as they have made it clear to the player that he won’t be allowed to force his way out.
