Manchester United’s new summer signing Benjamin Sesko has revealed that he is a big fan of legendary striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Sesko completed his blockbuster transfer from RB Leipzig last weekend in a deal worth £73.6 million.
Speaking to MUTV, the Slovenian revealed: “He’s been my role model since I’ve been small. I have been watching him, like every single YouTube video that I can find, because he’s just amazing for me, you know.
“Maybe one day to meet him, that would be great. He’s my idol. Of course, I try to take some stuff from him. Especially like some similarities with the high kicks and power strikes.”
Ibrahimovic joined Man United on a free transfer in 2016 and left in 2018.
During his spell in Manchester, the Swede made 53 appearances, scoring 29 goals and supplying ten assists.
After a fantastic debut season at Old Trafford, many thought that the club finally had a solution to their number nine problems.
However, serious knee ligament damage derailed that momentum, and the lure of LA Galaxy eventually drew him to MLS.
After Robin van Persie, only Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo have truly thrived as United’s number nine.
Sesko stands at 6ft 5in and will bring a much-needed aerial presence to United’s attack.
The money United invested in bringing him to Old Trafford will be seen as a bargain if Sesko can replicate the achievements of Ibrahimovic.
The 22-year-old took part in his first training session under Ruben Amorim today.
He is in line to make his debut against Arsenal in the opening Premier League clash next weekend.
A goal against the Gunners would be the perfect way to announce himself to the Old Trafford faithful.
Eyes will also be on Amorim to see if he starts Sesko ahead of Ramsus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
The Portuguese head coach may want the Slovenian to settle in and gel with his teammates before rewarding him with his first start.
