Alexander Isak could upset Chelsea star after agreement as Liverpool saga drags on

It is not just Alexander Isak who would be left disappointed if his move to Liverpool did not come to fruition, it has emerged. The domino effect of the potentially British transfer record deal would spark Newcastle life in the transfer market, and they have stumbled across a target who is truly keen to join them.

The Magpies have endured a torrid window so far, with numerous players snubbing a move to St James’ Park in favour of heading elsewhere. Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro and Benjamin Sesko all rebuffed interest from Newcastle, and Isak’s desire to depart too has rounded off a disappointing few months for the club.

The Sweden international is hoping to force through a move to Anfield, despite the Magpies’ insistence that he is not for sale. However, with Isak training alone and not taking kindly to Newcastle’s firm stance, it remains to be seen whether there is a change of heart on Tyneside.

Eddie Howe’s side have several potential replacement options in their sights if Isak does depart, with The Telegraph reporting that Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson is high on their shortlist of targets. The forward has agreed to leave the Blues this summer after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and he is not short of suitors, and the club have reportedly confirmed that they are willing to facilitate his sale.

Aston Villa and Tottenham are among those keen, as well as Newcastle. Jackson would favour joining the Magpies over other outfits this summer, though there is an awareness from all parties that any potential deal hinges on Isak’s future.

Chelsea are in no great hurry to part ways to part ways with the forward nevertheless, and they will only agree to his sale if they receive an offer of at least £64million – double the fee they forked out to sign him from Villarreal in 2023.

Jackson also signed a nine-year deal with the Blues last year meaning that Chelsea are in an incredibly strong negotiating position if Newcastle do arrive with an offer. In the meantime, the Magpies are continuing to work on alternative deals to bolster their ranks at both ends of the pitch.

Talks are ongoing with Brentford over a deal for Yoane Wissa, whilst Malick Thiaw has already touched down in Newcastle to complete his move from AC Milan.
