Leeds United have been linked with a move for Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss.

Daniel Farke has long had El Khannouss on his list of possible transfers this window. The newly promoted Premier League side are in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements and will hope that the Leicester star is the answer.

The Moroccan’s talent is undeniable and was even described by Jamie Vardy as “unbelievable”. As a result, Leeds will plan to do everything to sign him before the summer ends.

However, the Whites will need to be quick or else risk missing out to another suitor.

Leeds signing El Khannouss was a strong possibility, with the player open to Premier League clubs of all statuses.

But last-minute interference from Newcastle United could throw a spanner into the works. As reported by John Percy via X on Monday (11 August), Newcastle have a “strong interest” in El Khannouss and are looking at a possible deal.

El Khannouss has a release clause of around £24.5million

He is also attracting interest from other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham

It is unknown whether the player has decided on the club he wishes to play for next season

Due to the Magpies’ sudden interest, Leeds will need to trigger his release clause before Eddie Howe’s side.

Newcastle are unlikely to win the race if the attacking midfielder has a choice between the two clubs. Indeed, the temptation of playing UEFA Champions League football could be too high for El Khannouss.

With other Premier League clubs also believed to be circling, Leeds needs to pick up the pace.

El Khannouss would take Leeds to the next level

The Moroccan’s talent was on full display during Leicester’s opening Championship game of the season.

El Khannouss provided two assists as the Foxes came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Sunday (10 August). Talent like his deserves to be seen in the top flight week in and week out.

He could inject more youth into this competitive Leeds side while providing ample creativity in attack. Therefore, the Whites must act soon to secure his transfer this summer.
