Trent Alexander-Arnold has responded warmly to Darwin Nunez's touching farewell message following the striker's exit from Liverpool.

After the Uruguay international's £46million move to Al-Hilal, which could climb to over £56m with add-ons, Alexander-Arnold 'liked' the former Liverpool forward's parting post on social media. Núunez wrote on Instagram: "Thank you, Liverpool. Three years on, it's time to say goodbye. I'll take with me countless memories that will live with me forever.

"I leave with a full heart, thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back - through the highs and through the lows. Liverpool will always be part of who I am.

"I'll miss you more than words can say. To all the staff and my teammates - thank you, and all the very best for the future. YNWA."

The former Liverpool full-back, who departed this year to sign a contract with Spanish football giants Real Madrid, was among numerous former and current Reds stars who liked Nunez's emotional farewell to the club.

Those other players include Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson Becker, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Conor Bradley, Ryan Gravenberch and Stefan Bajcetic, totalling over 422,000 likes altogether.

This news follows Nunez previously poking fun at Alexander-Arnold's expense when the Real Madrid transfer was merely a distant dream for the football star. Last summer, speculation was rife about the right-back's potential switch to Spain, but he ultimately remained for another campaign with the Reds, before departing in the summer for £8.4m.

However, whilst Alexander-Arnold was still operating under Arne Slot alongside Nunez, the duo were preparing for the forthcoming season together when the striker quipped: "And Real Madrid? Ciao," referencing the England international's choice to remain in the Premier League for another campaign.

This playful banter now appears to have returned to bite Liverpool, as supporters have witnessed both Alexander-Arnold and Nunez exit in the same transfer window - one for a £8.4m deal and the other for a smaller fee than they initially paid.

Yet it seems there's no animosity between the former team-mates, as the 26-year-old striker departs Anfield with an impressive haul of trophies to his name.

Nunez arrived at the Reds in 2022 in a £73m transfer from Benfica, spending two campaigns under Jurgen Klopp and a final, remarkably triumphant season under Slot.

Nunez spent three years with Liverpool, netting 40 goals in 143 appearances and winning the Premier League in his final season.

Throughout his stint at Anfield, Nunez also secured winners' medals in the Community Shield and Carabao Cup, and will now head to the Saudi Pro League to reunite with a host of former Reds playing in the league.
