The Houston Rockets just acquired Kevin Durant, who should give them a huge boost next season.
But how long will Durant remain in Houston, and how much is the team willing to offer him?
According to Kurt Helin, per Legion Hoops, the Rockets can offer Durant a two-year, $122 million extension – but that doesn’t mean they will.

The Rockets could extend Durant an extension at any time and prohibit him from hitting unrestricted free agency in the summer, but they are going to weigh quite a few things before they do that.
They will consider his age, of course, because Durant is now 36 years old and adding an extension to his contract may not be wise.
But the Rockets are also desperate not to hit the second apron and then be in serious tax problems.
So, while they could give him a lot more, they may ride out next season and see how things go before they make their next move with Durant.
They acquired him with an expiring contract, and they could be comfortable just sitting with that for the time being.
Durant is going to bring a major boost to the team, especially offensively, but the Rockets also believe in the young core that they have.
They want to focus on the present, with Durant, but they also don’t want to give up too much money that will hold them back with their up-and-coming group of players.
The Rockets might decide that paying more is worth it, especially if Durant has one of his best seasons ever.
But, for right now, they are going to stay still and not do anything, despite being able to offer a lot.
