Upsetting Jeremy Sochan report makes Spurs' plan clear as day

Much to the dismay of the Polish Prince, Jeremy Sochan, and the fans who wanted to see what he's been working on put into action, he won't be participating in EuroBasket for Team Poland due to a newly sustained calf strain. The announcement came earlier today, along with a statement from the 22-year-old forward expressing his understandable displeasure.

Here's a statement from Jeremy Sochan on him stepping away from team Poland at EuroBasket 2025:

"I'm beyond disappointed to share that due to a calf strain, I have to step away from representing Poland at EuroBasket.

"I've been working so hard my whole offseason for this, and the past several weeks of training and competing with the national team has been incredible," Jeremy wrote. We've seen some of that hard work on video. Sochan has almost completely eradicated the hitch in his jumpshot, and fans have been anxious to see if it will translate to the games.

But as soon as his strain was discovered, it had to be obvious what would happen next. The Spurs aren't playing around this summer, and it's evidenced by the number of players whose original plans were cancelled as soon as they suffered any ailment.

Brian Wright, @spurs GM on Sochan’s calf injury:

🗣️ Jeremy received professional help in Poland. Cooperation with the polish national team’s staff and management has always been excellent. However, in this situation, the best option for Jeremy is to return to San Antonio.

The Spurs want all players ready for the season

Devin Vassell not being ready for the start of last season is probably still fresh in the minds of the front office. The goal was to make the playoffs in Victor Wembanyama's second year, but they weren't whole from the very beginning. They don't want to see that situation play out again, especially if they can control it.

Wemby was intent on playing Eurobasket this summer, too, but his DVT diagnosis threw a monkey wrench into that plan. Vic was cleared by the medical staff at the beginning of July. He truly could have participated in the tournament, representing Team France, but the decision not to was likely made for him.

De'Aaron Fox had a tour in Asia on the board for the Curry Brand World Tour before a muscle strain came along. Those stops wouldn't have involved any heavy lifting or strenuous activity. All he would have had to do was show his face, but again, the decision not to was likely made for him once an injury was in play.

It's clear that San Antonio doesn't want any of their players too far from their reach and their care if any of their guys suffer from the slightest ailment. That's a good thing if you ask me, but that doesn't mean it doesn't also hurt.

Sochan is due for a big year, and the work he's been putting in this summer only reinforced how much we know he cares about improving. It was almost time to see it on display, but we'll have to wait until the NBA season begins to get a glimpse now.
