West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta has been linked with a move to Newcastle United in the past few days.
Paqueta has been cleared of all charges after previous allegations of spot-fixing, and it was hoped he would be backed to his best for West Ham this season.
However, these transfer rumours, paired with Paqueta’s woeful performance against Lille on Saturday, have led some fans to believe he could be on his way out of the club.
Paqueta is West Ham’s top earner and would command a healthy transfer fee.
Yet, his departure would leave the Hammers woefully short of creative talent, especially as they’ve already sold Mohammed Kudus this summer.

Sky Sports reporter dismisses rumours of Paqueta moving to Newcastle
Paqueta is an ambitious player, and it was thought he might be tempted by an opportunity to play in the Champions League with Newcastle.
However, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has dismissed the rumours that the Magpies are preparing to launch a bid for him.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Told there is no interest from Newcastle in Lucas Paqueta, despite a lot of chatter on here…”
Paqueta will be a key player if West Ham are to improve on last season
Paqueta was out of sorts for large chunks of last season, and perhaps that’s understandable considering everything that was going on off the pitch.
Now that he has been cleared of all charges, West Ham will be hoping to see him back to his brilliant best.

Indeed, Paqueta was electric in the friendly against Everton, shortly before the news of his innocence became public.
As things stand, the Brazilian will be expected to serve as the main creative outlet for the Hammers this season.
Perhaps Graham Potter will recruit some more flair players to play alongside him, but Paqueta seems like the player who can thrive on this type of pressure.
Hammers fans won’t want to see him sold. If he goes before the end of the transfer window, it wouldn’t be surprising to witness more protests against the board.
