Just in: Keith Downie says Ligue 1 giants want to sign £120,000-a-week Newcastle star

Newcastle United could lose one of their star players in the coming weeks of the transfer window, according to reports - and it's not Alexander Isak, with suggestions that Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are contemplating a move to sign veteran star Kieran Trippier in the coming weeks.

The report by Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie states that Monaco are interested in signing Trippier from the Magpies, with the Ligue 1 giants weighing up an approach to Newcastle for the 34-year-old star.

Trippier, who has been one of the stalwarts and fan favourites in Newcastle's new Saudi-led era, only has one year left on his £120,000-a-week contract in the north-east, and having lost his starting role to youngster Tino Livramento, Monaco have now come forward with their interest.

However, Newcastle don't want to lose the England international, as he is a 'key player' for Eddie Howe.
