Fabrizio Romano confirms £7.8m/year Liverpool star is "expected to leave" after Community Shield absence

Liverpool lost the Community Shield final but Kostas Tsimikas was conspicuously missing from the event and Fabrizio Romano has provided a reason as to why.

The ‘Greek Scouser’ was linked with a move to Leeds United in late May but ever since, the story and all links to a move away died down.

The 29-year-old is currently the third choice left-back at Anfield after the £40m acuisition of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, who impressed at Wembley on Sunday.

Andy Robertson is the second choice but there is no room for a third choice left back and so Liverpool will look for a tidy fee and in the process remove £7.8m per year in wages for Tsimikas.

It’s the end of a fun adventure for Tsimikas and the fans as Fabrizio Romano confirms rumours that the reason the former Olympiacos fullback was missing from Liverpool’s squad to face Palace is because he is set to leave the club.

Fabrizio Romano confirms the reason why Kostas Tsimikas was left out of Liverpool as transfer story restarts

Liverpool are now seemingly restarting attempts to sell Kostas Tsimikas based off a report from Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer guru reports: “Kostas Tsimikas, expected to leave Liverpool as he’s been left out of the squad against Palace for this reason.

“Player prepared to go and try new chapter, already got approached by Nottingham Forest earlier in the window.”

Liverpool are in the process of finding a way to extract Alexander Isak from Newcastle United with the transfer guranteed to be a Premier League record bid – smashing the fresh £116m paid to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz.

That record is not yet two months old and the Reds could demolish it for Isak but there is still dire need of a new centre-back and Liverpool could use proceeds from Tsimikas to put towards signing Marc Guehi or Giovanni Leoni from Parma.

Arne Slot has already strengthened his starting lineup but the depth beyond his obviously top notch starters is worrying.

Injuries will shape how well their depth will withstand the busy season ahead but there is also an adequate amount of time for Liverpool to solve all their headaches before the window closes on 1 September.
