Liverpool to hold “further talks” for Marc Guehi “this week” – Latest LFC News

Liverpool will hold talks with Crystal Palace and Marc Guehi “this week,” reported one journalist as the Eagles’ chairman admitted they may have to sell.

Liverpool have long been reported to be targeting Guehi this summer, and things could finally start to move in the coming days.

Merseyside journalist Lewis Steele reported: “Liverpool remain keen and set to hold further talks this week. They don’t want to overpay for a player out of contract soon, though.”

This comes after Palace lost their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, meaning they will play in the Europa Conference League instead of the Europa League.

Following the Community Shield, in which Guehi captained Palace to their penalty shootout win over Liverpool, Eagles chairman Steve Parish admitted they may have to sell the centre-back.

“Yes. I mean, we’d have to, of course,” said Parish, who is also co-owner, when asked if he would seriously entertain tempting bids for his skipper over the next three weeks.

“For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem. No doubt about it, unfortunately.

“We had one bid (last summer) but Joachim (Andersen) went (to Fulham) and we couldn’t afford to lose both of them. We then had another bid in January but that was a difficult situation as well, and the player had a point of view on that one.

“So we just have to see what happens but it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”

Palace were originally holding out for a fee of over £50 million, but that has since come down to nearer £40m, reported BBC Sport‘s Sami Mokbel.
