Liverpool seem to have received a massive boost in their pursuit of 25-year-old Alexander Isak with a shift in stance from Newcastle United – a second bid is more likely than ever.
The Premier League season 2025/26 season begins with Anfield hosting Bournemouth on Friday evening and at this stage, the Isak saga has entered the most risky phase.
If Liverpool cannot agree a fee and payment structure by the end of the week, it will become even more of an unwanted story at Newcastle United while it will also be negative for Liverpool for this story to drag on until transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
That breakthrough now seems closer than ever – especially with Luke Edwards of the Telegraph saying Isak is behaving like “a spoilt child who has been told they cannot have sweets for breakfast” after the player’s decision to not trafvel with Newcastle for their pre-season tour of Asia and the refusal to train and reintegrate into the squad.
A break in the tension is imminent.
The final price for Alexander Isak will be closer to £130m as narrative on Newcastle exit shifts for second time
The most recent shift in this story was when the stance in reporting from Newcastle journalists went from being that Newcastle would not sell at any price to ‘the price is £150m.’
Now, that stance, and potentially Newcastle’s, has softened and it would now appear as though Isak is available for a fee in the region of £130m.
According to the Chronicle Live, while Newcastle have not indicated they will sell for less, agents have revealed that an offer of £130m plus add-ons could be enough to complete a deal. The payment structure would have to be suitable for both parties but Liverpool have proven themselves to be efficient at getting deals done this summer.
? From @alex_crook – Newcastle want £150m. Sources are telling me that Liverpool won’t pay that and that actually the initial bid of £110m that went in wasn’t too far away from what Liverpool think Newcastle will accept. pic.twitter.com/yPzSf3Ceu0

That would still constitute a significant increase on the Premier League record fee agreed for Wirtz with Isak, at that price-point, more expensive by £14m.
Jermaine Pennant explains why Liverpool will submit a second bid soon after their Community Shield Final defeat
Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes Liverpool will submit a second bid for Isak after their defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield final.
“There’s two reasons why it’s going to happen, as in why a bid will go in,” the former Premier League star told TalkSPORT.
“Not only have they now lost Luis Diaz, they’ve also lost Nunez and we know sadly they’ve lost Diogo Jota. That’s three potential number nine players who play in that position. So, losing them, yes they’ve got Ekitike, but that’s just one.
“If you’re going into the season as favourites you need good strength in depth,” Pennant added. “So, they will be getting a replacement in that position, number nine.
“If you’re going in with £110m, you’re not going to not go in with £120m, £130m, especially with the selling of Nunez.”
