Report: West Ham now 'determined' to sign £100,000-a-week free agent

West Ham United are exploring a move to sign former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to CaughtOffside.

The London Stadium side are reportedly showing ‘great determination’ to bring in the 28-year-old forward on a free transfer as they seek another low-cost deal to bolster Graham Potter’s attacking options.

The Hammers welcomed former Newcastle and Bournemouth ace Callum Wilson for free earlier this month and may now take a gamble on Calvert-Lewin, who departed Everton upon contract expiry in June.

Calvert-Lewin’s availability on a free transfer has sparked interest from a host of English and foreign clubs, with Newcastle, Sunderland and sides in Germany, MLS and Saudi Arabia showing interest.

According to CaughtOffside, Calvert-Lewin’s high wage demands have made some of his suitors cautious – the 'exceptional' former England international is reportedly looking to earn £100,000 per week at his next club.

Moreover, his injury record is also a concern and, as senior GIVEMESPORT reporter Dean Jones revealed, is viewed as ‘a major red flag’ for some interested clubs.

Calvert-Lewin was limited to just 26 senior appearances across all competitions last term and endured injury-hit campaigns in both 2022/23 and 2023/24, missing a total of 50 games across the last three seasons.

West Ham have so far shown indications they might be willing to take a ‘calculated gamble’ to bring Calvert-Lewin in to further boost Potter’s attacking options.

The east London club's summer business has picked up pace in recent days, with both Wilson and former Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen joining.

The Hammers have previously welcomed full-backs Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf, while Mohammed Kudus left to join Tottenham.

According to GIVEMESPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, the London Stadium side could see further activity before the deadline and are considering a move for another Leicester star.

This time, West Ham have Bilal El Khannouss on their radar and are among several Premier League clubs eyeing a move for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who has a £22.5m relegation release clause.
